ISLAMABAD: Minister for Planning Development and Reform Ahsan Iqbal on Wednesday said that accountability should be carried out against the corrupt elements without any discrimination.
While talking to a private news channel, Iqbal said that the opposition should agree with government on the formation of terms of reference (ToR) on Panama papers.
The minister hoped that the government and opposition would soon formulate ToR for judicial commission to probe Panama papers with consensus.
He added that the constitution of offshore companies was not illegal as per international law.
However, he said that the prime minister’s was not mentioned in the Panama reports, but he had presented himself and his family for accountability.
Iqbal said that those whose names were mentioned in the Panama papers were trying to escape from accountability.
“We are all against the menace of corruption and want to remove it from the society. There is need to make legislation in this regard,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said the federal government was trying to remove reservations of the provinces regarding funds despite limited resources in the upcoming fiscal budget.
When PML-N government came into power in 2013, the country was facing number of challenges including terrorism, energy and others he said, adding that the government had overcome terrorism from the country.
