PESHAWAR: Heavy rainfall coupled with strong winds on Wednesday claimed lashed Peshawar, killing two people and leaving many others wounded.
The strong wind blew away trees, billboards, electricity polls and loss of property.
According to spokesman of Rescue 1122, some 14 incidents of roof collapse, tree, billboards electricity polls reported from across the city, killing two-year-old Umer Khan at a sugar mill and 30-year-old Jehangir at Lady Reading Hospital.
He said the incidents were reported from Guldara Chowk, Bashir Abad, Academy Town, Lahori Gate, Kohat Road, Charsadda Road, Faqir Qale, University Town, Hussain Chowk, Hayatabad and Patang Chowk.
He said several roads were inundated due to heavy rainfall in the city that continued for more than two hours.
He said that on the directives of Rescue1122 Director General Dr Asad Ali Khan, high alert was issued and emergency was imposed in the city to cope with any emergency, adding that 18 ambulances and 120 officials of Rescue 1122 participated in the relief operations.
